Editverse AI Use Policy
How we use artificial intelligence in our content — and how we ensure everything we publish is human-verified, factually accurate, and grounded in primary sources.
Last reviewed: June 2026 · Editverse Research & Editorial Team
✅ Our Commitment in Plain English
Every factual claim, statistic, citation, and clinical recommendation published on Editverse is verified by a human editor against a primary source — before it goes live. AI tools assist our workflow, but they never replace human judgment, source verification, or editorial accountability.
1. Why We Have This Policy
The rapid adoption of AI writing tools has created a new research integrity crisis: content published across the internet increasingly contains fabricated statistics, hallucinated citations, and unchecked claims that look authoritative but have no grounding in the published literature. For researchers making high-stakes decisions — about where to submit, how to handle retracted citations, which statistical methods to use — consuming inaccurate guidance can have direct consequences for their careers and published work.
Editverse serves academic researchers, manuscript editors, and PhD students who rely on our guides to make real decisions. We take that responsibility seriously. This policy documents exactly how we use AI, where we draw the line, and how our human verification process works.
2. What AI Does in Our Workflow
We use AI language tools as editorial assistants — not as authors. The specific roles AI plays in our content production are:
📝 Drafting & Structure
AI generates initial outlines and prose drafts. These are treated as rough working documents — not finished content. Every sentence is reviewed and rewritten where needed.
🔍 Literature Discovery
AI suggests relevant research topics and keywords. Our team then searches PubMed, CrossRef, and Cochrane directly to identify actual primary sources.
⚙️ Formatting & SEO
AI assists with HTML formatting, meta descriptions, and internal linking suggestions. All SEO decisions are reviewed by our editorial team.
📊 Data Visualisation
AI tools assist in generating charts and infographics from verified datasets. The underlying data is always sourced from published, peer-reviewed literature before visualisation.
3. What AI Does Not Do
The following are never performed by AI without human verification at Editverse:
| Task | Why Human Verification Is Required |
|---|---|
| Citing a statistic or finding | AI frequently hallucinates statistics. Every number in our content is traced to its primary source and verified by a human editor before publication. |
| Including a DOI or PMID | Every DOI and PMID in our articles is verified against PubMed or CrossRef to confirm the paper exists, the title matches, and the cited finding actually appears in the abstract or full text. |
| Making clinical or methodological recommendations | All guidance on manuscript methodology, statistical analysis, and publication ethics is reviewed by a team member with relevant doctoral (PhD) or clinical (MD) expertise. |
| Reporting retraction data | All retraction counts and trends are verified against the Retraction Watch Database, Clarivate Web of Science, or PubMed retraction records before publication. |
| Describing publisher or database policies | Statements about COPE guidelines, Clarivate policies, JUFO classifications, and journal indexing status are verified against the issuing body’s official documentation. |
| Providing manuscript editing services | Client manuscripts are edited exclusively by human editors. AI tools are not used to process, analyse, or rewrite client-submitted content. |
🛡️ The Editverse AI Fabrication Shield
Before any article is published, it passes through our internal AI Fabrication Shield — a multi-step human verification process designed to catch hallucinated facts, fabricated citations, and unsupported claims.
Step 1 — DOI verification
Every cited paper is resolved via CrossRef or PubMed to confirm existence and title match.
Step 2 — Abstract review
The specific claim attributed to each paper is checked against the abstract or full text by a human editor.
Step 3 — Retraction check
All cited papers are screened against the Retraction Watch Database before publication.
Step 4 — Expert review
Clinical or methodological content is reviewed by a team member with relevant PhD or MD qualifications.
4. Our Editorial Team
Content published on Editverse is produced and reviewed by a team of academic professionals with doctoral (PhD) and clinical (MD) qualifications across biomedical sciences, clinical research, systematic review methodology, publication ethics, and academic writing. Team members have direct experience with manuscript submission, peer review, retraction handling, and journal selection across major publishing families including Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, SAGE, and the JAMA Network.
All editorial reviewers have active experience working with researchers on manuscripts destined for indexed journals, which means our guidance reflects what actually happens in real submission and review processes — not theoretical frameworks.
5. Content Update and Review Policy
Academic publishing guidelines, database indexing policies, and research integrity standards change frequently. Editverse commits to:
- Reviewing all substantive guides at least annually, or sooner when a major policy change occurs (e.g., Clarivate JIF methodology updates, COPE guideline revisions, or major retraction events)
- Displaying the date of last review on every article
- Replacing outdated statistics with current verified figures rather than leaving stale data in place
- Issuing a visible update notice at the top of affected articles when significant new information changes the guidance
6. Client Manuscript Confidentiality
Client manuscripts submitted for editing or publication support are treated with complete confidentiality. We do not:
- Use client manuscript content to train AI systems
- Process client manuscripts through public or commercial AI writing tools
- Share client data with third parties
- Retain client manuscript files after project completion
All client projects are covered by a signed non-disclosure agreement (NDA) upon request. Client identity is never disclosed. This applies equally to manuscript content, research data, author identities, and institutional affiliations.
7. Transparency and Accountability
We believe transparency about AI use is a researcher’s right, not just an ethical nicety. If you find a factual error, an outdated statistic, or a citation that does not match its claimed source in any Editverse article, we want to know immediately.
Report a factual error
Contact us at editverse.com/contact with the article URL, the specific claim, and the correct source. We commit to investigating within 48 hours and correcting any verified errors within 5 business days.
8. How We Compare to Unverified AI Content
| Content standard | Unverified AI content | Editverse |
|---|---|---|
| Citations verified against primary source | ❌ Often fabricated | ✅ Every DOI/PMID verified |
| Retraction-checked references | ❌ Not checked | ✅ Retraction Watch Database screening |
| PhD/MD expert review | ❌ None | ✅ Required for all clinical/methodological content |
| Client manuscripts processed through public AI | ⚠️ Common practice | ✅ Never. Human editors only. |
| Content reviewed after major policy changes | ❌ Rarely updated | ✅ Annual review + triggered updates |
| Signed NDA for client confidentiality | ❌ Typically absent | ✅ Available on all client projects |
